Skincare routines are mostly done in the morning and at night, and there are basic steps you should follow when developing yours.

Cleansing

This is the first and most important step of your skincare routine, either in the morning or at night. Cleansing helps remove dirt, excess oil, makeup products, and other elements that may clog your pores.

Proper cleansing maintains your skin in a healthy state always. You should also cleanse after working out to remove the sweat and unclog your pores. Clogged pores are the number one cause of skin breakout and acne.

When choosing cleansers, ensure that you look at the ingredients, Ensure there are no harsh ones that will strip your skin of its natural oils or irritate your skin and eyes. Also, check which skin type the products are made for. If you have dry skin, go for products with moisturizing properties.

Toner

After cleansing your face, gently tap excess water from it using a towel and apply a toner. Toners help the skin by unclogging your pores, hydrating the skin, and adds a layer that helps other skincare products absorb better into the skin.

They also help add more nutrients to your skin. Apply a few drops of your toner in your clean palms and gently rub it all over your skin. You can also use a cotton bud to work in the toner. Ensure to avoid the eyes and mouth.

Serum

The serum helps you achieve healthier and younger-looking skin. It penetrated deep into your skin, delivering a lot of beneficial ingredients. Normally, serums are applied after toners or before moisturizers and sunscreen.

However, ensure you read the instruction on your product. You can apply serum using your fingers to pat it in and spread it out. Make sure you cover all the areas in your face evenly.

Moisturizer

This is considered the most important step of a skincare routine. Moisturizers help hydrate your skin and lock in the moisture, which leaves the skin feeling soft and moist for a long time. Moisturizers can be used for a morning or night routine.

If you are doing a morning skincare routine, this is done before you apply your sunscreen and makeup. However, for a night routine, this is the last step of the skincare routine before going to bed.

Before applying it at night, you can place a mask on your face for around 10 minutes after applying the serum. That not only helps cool and relax your skin, but it also helps hydrate and adds some nutrients.

You can also apply it directly after cleaning your face, but you have to ensure that you do not dry your face completely.

Apply your moisturizer using your fingers in a swirling motion in all parts of your face. Rub it in for a few seconds to ensure it is absorbed into the skin. If you are applying it in the morning, let it dry before putting anything else on your face.

For the best moisturizing results, use a day cream for your morning routine and night cream for your night routine. Day creams are lighter, and most contain SPF to protect you from the sun.

Night creams, on the other hand, are thicker and have ingredients like retinal that help in skin cell turnover.

You should also moisturize around your eyes using an eye cream. It helps hydrate, tighten, firm, and brighten your under eyes, which helps get rid of fine lines, wrinkles, eye bags, and dark circles.

Sunscreen

This is an important part of a morning skincare routine, especially during the hotter months or if you plan on walking under the sun for long. Sunscreen helps protect you from the sun, prevents wrinkles and skin discoloration.

Go for a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor of between 30 and 50. Also, ensure that it protects you from both UVA and UVB sun rays. UVA sun rays are responsible for skin aging. However, the UVB rays are responsible for burning and discoloring the skin.

Read the ingredients of the sunscreen before putting it on your skin to ensure that there are no ingredients that will irritate your skin.

After starting your skincare, you have to give it time to see the results. The change does not happen overnight, and you have to be consistent with the routine. Before starting the routine, always ensure you clean your hands to avoid introducing bacteria to your skin.

Cleaning your towel often also helps avoid spreading bacteria to your skin. Also, if you notice that some products are irritating your skin, stop using them and look for better alternatives.
