Sustainability: Reusable Beauty Items

Sustainability is hitting all industries as more people want to do their part to help the earth. It’s also hitting the beauty industry, and that’s a great thing.

Now, you can improve or maintain your look and feel good knowing that you’re decreasing your carbon footprint. Plus, supporting businesses that are doing the right thing encourages other companies to do the same. Sooner or later, even folks who don’t care about sustainability will be doing it without even noticing.

The following are some interesting reusable and sustainable beauty products.

Reusable Cotton Rounds

People use cotton rounds for various reasons. Some use them to apply things like toners or even lotion. After they’re used, the rounds are disposed of. After a while, you have to buy more and the cycle continues.

That’s no longer the case with reusable cotton rounds that’ll help you do everything you normally would.

You can still use them to remove nail polish or eye makeup. The only perk here is you get to wash them and reuse them. Even if you don’t care about sustainability, this saves money.

Shampoo Bars

When you think of shampoo, you probably picture a big container with goo inside, yet there is another option, which is switching to shampoo bars.

Yes, there are shampoo bars you can purchase instead of shampoo in a container that will end up in some landfill.

These bars are very effective, and when they’re done, there’s nothing to throw away. You could also work with a store that offers shampoo refills so that you never have to throw away that container if you can’t get used to the bars.

DIY Facial Scrubs

The facial scrubs you buy at the store may contain strange ingredients, not to mention they come in packaging you have to toss afterward.

You won’t have to worry about this problem if you make scrubs at home.

The truth is that making these on your own isn’t so hard. For a simple scrub, you could use one tablespoon of sugar and two tablespoons of an oil like coconut oil. There’s nothing to throw away when you’re done. The ingredients are so natural you can eat them if you want to.

Cotton or Linen Cloths

Cotton cloths, washcloths, and handkerchiefs are great additions to your beauty routine. Most people use wipes to remove makeup or to freshen up after a long day, but these wipes are normally thrown away.

If you purchase enough cloths, you won’t have to worry about buying disposable wipes. These are completely washable, and you can buy as many as you want so that you always have some to use.

The washable cloth industry has been gaining popularity in many ways. Some folks even use washable family cloths, which replace toilet paper. It might take some time to get used to the idea, but after a while, it won’t be a big deal.

Safety Razors

If you’re trying to create less waste, then a reusable razor handle is your best bet. A lot of people use disposable razors, but that creates a lot of waste, no matter how inexpensive that big bag of razors is.

Yes, the razor handle is a little more expensive, but the investment is worth it.

What you get is a handle that’s meant to last a lifetime. All you have to worry about after that is replacing the blade. This means you’re going to be throwing away blades, but at least it’s just the blade. Metal can be easily recycled, so you’re doing a lot more good this way.

Shaving Soaps

Shaving creams help protect your skin from the blade when you shave, but they also produce a lot of waste, and that’s not a good thing. The container the shaving cream comes in is always waste.

The good thing is there’s a better way. You can switch to shaving soaps. Like shampoo soaps, there are also shaving soaps.

Regular soap is watery, so it doesn’t leave anything behind when you rinse, but shaving soaps are different. They leave behind a thick film on your skin that’s meant to help you when you shave. The ingredients are natural and help moisturize your skin as well, so you’ll be happy with it.

Bar Soap With no Packaging

Everyone uses bar soaps; that’s not too surprising. What is surprising is that soap companies are offering soaps without packaging, which is great for the earth.

No box to throw away after opening it, and no plastic to throw away. This is used for all the soap products mentioned here like the shaving soap just mentioned.

You should invest in these types of soaps if you want to reduce the amount of waste you produce. The companies that are doing this are trying to be better corporate citizens, so helping them out is in everyone’s best interest.

Reusable Swabs

This is probably one thing you couldn’t imagine reusing. You might use swabs to remove makeup or deal with earwax, so you probably don’t want to use them again.

Well, there are reusable swabs, and they can help reduce waste. All you have to do is wash them with soap for at least 60 seconds and let them air dry. Some folks even sanitize the swabs with a little alcohol after cleaning, just to be safe, but these can be added to your beauty list. These can also save you money in the long run.

These are some reusable and sustainable beauty products you can try. Hopefully, you like all of these ideas, or maybe you can start with a few to get used to this new way of caring for yourself.
